Last night we ventured out into the cold around 8pm in search of someplace nice to sit down and eat after a long day…. our prospects looked like we would be settling for Italian food (there are a LOT of Italian restaurants in Geneva!). Well, as we lucked out, we came across a decent looking Tapas restaurant down the street called La Bodega that was still open, and much to our surprise was getting more full by the minute. So we sat down and had a look at the menu, but I knew right away that we absolutely had to order what I saw that other guy eating when we came in.. which was an ENORMOUS platter of shrimp, fitters, fried calamari, and various other meats. Mmmm. Tapas.
We ended up spying another table that was enjoying a pitcher of red sangria, and we decided to play it safe and follow suit. That ended up being the right call as well. I should probably also mention, (because it was literally the largest thing in the room), that there was a HUGE mural of a Spanish bull bursting out of a bull fighting arena on the wall. I mean this thing filled an entire wall. “Very Impressive!”, I thought when we first walked in. However, after a few more sangrias, I wasn’t so sure anymore. The bull didn’t exactly look friendly.
We stayed on for a bit longer and enjoyed the jukebox, which played all the hits from 1955. The place had really started filling up, and despite the fact that EVERYONE in the place was smoking wildly, the bar had pretty good air filtration in place, so it wasn’t too bad. Nothing worse than coming home and smelling like an ash trash. It’s interesting to contrast this to Chicago, where you cannot smoke within six feet of an establishment’s entrance… here, everyone smokes, a lot.
In any event, it was a fun place and I could see us going back again sometime
